Sólheimajökull Glacier is an outlet glacier from the south-western part of the Mýrdalsjökull ice cap. It is about 8 km long and 1-2 km wide. River Jökulsá discharges it, and is sometimes called “The Stinking River” because of its emission of sulphuric acid from sub-glacial high temperature areas. Icelandic Mountain Guides offer guided glacier hikes up the glacier tounge which I highly recommend.
Here is an awesome timelapse of Sólheimajökull glacier by the Extreme Ice Survay.
